Well, Isis Has been through some major changes sinced I been here. I bought Vista Home Premium two months before Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Vista ran great until I ran FSX. That is when I found out how SLOW my computer really was! I changed my graphics card to a GeForce 8800 GTS, my processor to a Intel Dual Core Processor, my motherboard to the Nividia 680i Black Pearl, and finally added 3GB of RAM. After overclocking the processor to 3GHz, now my computer SCREAMS! :) Since then, I have decided to hack into Vista and added the Windows Dreamscene program (which is intended for Vista Ultimate) so now I have animated wallpapers! Not Screensavers, active Wallpapers! :D I am also working on the new Microsoft Silverlight program, but I found out it runs just like Macromedia Flash Player.

So for Vista.... A HELL YES! ^_^'

Quote by febrypI like them both, but if anyone here could show me a movie that jackie and jet lee are fighting i am sure that who's is better should be proof!

There isn't one and there never will be. Jet Li said in an interview that he want to focus more on acting than fighting, so he doesn't want to fight anymore. The main title of this thread should have been "Jackie Chan and Tony Jaa", for Tony Jaa does his own stunts too.....kinda.

Chuck the Flash Drive. There is no way you can sucessfully clear and reformat the drive without introducing it to your computer, unless there is a anti-virus for that particular virus.

f

IF YOU CAN STICKY THIS DO SO!

I HAVE TO GET YOU GUYS COMPLETE ATTENTION!

For a while most of us have been using CCCP along with the Media player classic to watch our anime. Problem is, there are some files that worked with Windows Media Player 11, but played in Japanese, with no English subtitles. And now for the Vista users the Media Center shows a better picture quality than the Media Player, but still had the same issues with the .mkv files that the Windows Media Player has; so we resort back to the Media Player Classic.

NOT ANYMORE!

I was screwing around the Internet, trying to figure out ways to combine CCCP and Windows Media Player and I discovered this blog:

http://www.respectsakura.org/2006/10/16/apple-vs-dell/ click on the MKV/OGM/MP4 Support in Vista 2.0 Visual Edition link!

This blog not only tells you how to COMBINE THE CCCP PACK AND WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 11, BUT IT WILL ALSO WORK FOR THE VISTA WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER!

I followed the detailed instructions (which have screenshots of what you are doing) to the letter, but ran into a snag...I didn't know how to install .reg files, which is a must. But I found out how to install them and guys......... THIS SETUP REALLY WORKS! ALL the anime files are thumb-nailed (use to be only files that was able to play through Windows Media Player 11 were seen) and if the file is Japanese with English subtitles, they will come on automatically! No more right clicking to set subtitles....... :)

I recently acquired Ghost In The Shell: Solid State Society and discovered that it was in Japanese with English subtitles, which prompted me to do the search. After I followed the instructions, I played the file again and the subtitles came on....AND THIS IS THROUGH THE WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER! I added an entry on the blog site (under my usual tag, GundamWZero), thanking whoever figured this out! The greatest thing is.....there is a high probability that us Vista users can now BURN DVDs using the Windows DVD Maker, with the included subtitles! I will attempt this TONIGHT, post what happened TOMORROW! Those who uses the Windows Movie Maker....try it out and post your results!

Try this out guys, this really works!

Double Post...See above. ^_^'

Well, after a huge petition started by the members of MySpace, the company decided to give up the names of the sex offenders that have made a profile on their site. Its sad that the members had to stand up and demand this when the company was clearly trying to hide these indivisuals. Keep in mind that these indivisuals are court ordered to stay away from places that has kids or caters to them....even internet sites. However there is one site that caters to pedophiles based in Washington State, but they moved its servers to Vancouver, BC to avoid getting shut down. These sickos even show where they can find children, such as parks and recreation areas. They'll get shut down soon enough.

f

I use an EGVA GeForce 8800 GTS! I'd like to get another one....... :)

f

Now this is some B.S.!

Attorney Generals from 8 States requested that MySpace should release all the names of registered sex offenders that has an MySpace account, citing that in a recent study, more and more sex offenders and pedophiles are surfing MySpace..... and pose an significant threat to children that are members there. The study came out a couple days ago and the request was made yesterday, so today MySpace refuses to give the names of the registered sex offenders!

Then guess what?

MySpace then deletes the profiles of "a few thousand" CONVICTED sex offenders profiles they had on the site!

Then they are adding new software that will block sex offenders from accessing MySpace! :hmpf:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18659577/

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18699520/

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18686463/

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16056003

One. Why didn't MySpace ask for a court order then released the names? It's true that this has to be done Federally, but nevertheless they would have complied with the request latter.

Two. Why did MySpace turn down the request and then deleted the profiles of "a few thousand" sex offenders? "A FEW THOUSAND" is enough to throw up enough red flags so that you can see it from space! Who is Myspace trying to protect, and who is to say that they still have "a few thousand more"?

Three. How the hell can MySpace protect children who frequent there by adding software that can block registered sex offenders? All they have to do is change their name, date of birth, where they live...etc. It is also dangerous to request personal info like Social Security Numberd, due to identity theft; all a hacker has to do is to infiltrate the database and he has credit and you won't! >=(

MySpace screwed up and I am glad my son is not an active member there.

So what is you guys take on this?

f

The best thing to do in cases such as these is to open a separate account for the children in question. Then you max out the parental controls and let them at it!

And if you find a bologna and cheese sandwich in the CD/DVD drive and quarters in the floppy.......

don't blame me. ^_^'

f

If it hangs for more than 5 minuets.....I simply shut it off. ;)

However, I haven't had that problem with Vista.......yet. o_0

Quote by PrairieDogGuy2006What a novel idea. A space port. If it's just one space port (small one to boot). I see no problem. Perhaps in due time, more space ports will open up and the U.S. government will loosen the grip on space travel and allow both the private and the public to enjoy the opportunity to travel to space.

Of course, there would be alot of investors who will willing to invest in new space ports. Good luck !

The government doesn't have a grip on privatized space travel. The wallet does! :) How much do you think it cost to maintain launch vehicles and facilities? I bet you that if anyone has the cash to do it now, they won't in about a few years..... you gotta think about contractors to build and maintain the vehicles, the cost of fuel, safety issues and the technology behind it, and to top it off you gotta sway the engineers to come work for you, and they aren't going to work for peanuts....they spent 20 some-odd years doing that for NASA. Note that I didn't even mention about the facility itself and the safety and security concern therein.

Quote by DuuzAs I've said in the VT shooting thread. Virginia has a law on the books preventing the purchase of a handgun by a person ordered by the state or doctors to get pyschiatric help. In short Cho should have failed a background check and have been denighed the handgun.

Something in the system failed. More laws aren't needed, enforceing current laws are. Some one some where here broke the law by failing to put Cho's name in the system. There needs to be further investigation to find out who failed to do their job and why.

Cho didn't fail the background check. He lied on the application about requiring to get psychiatric help: when asked was he ever referred or needed psychiatric counseling, he said "no". Obviously he knew what he wanted to do. He wasn't looney, just plain smart.

Quote by ArnyI have no idea where you're getting this from, I was running the full Aero interface on my DirectX 9 card, an Nvidia 7800 GT, when I was messing around with the beta last year. Actually check out Wikipedia here for a summary of the requirements. At this point you only need a DirectX 10 card to run games that support it - I'm not whether there are any out yet, although I think Crysis was due out next month....?

Anyway, that was slightly off-topic although hopefully informative for anyone thinking they need to upgrade their video card just to run Vista! Huzzah for nerd-debates!

Well, the issues with the Aero interface and outdated vidcards are from my own experience! I updated the new drivers from Nvidia so that Visa will work with my twin 6800gs cards. When I swtched to the Aero interface, my computer automatically went into SLi mode and shut down one of my monitors! Turned out that the Aero interface required more from one of my 6800gs so the OS combined the two cards to operate the interface sufficently. So I bought one NVidia/EGVA 8800 GTX vidcard, hooked up both monitors, and the Aero interface ran flawlessly on both monitors! I will go for the overkill and buy the second 8800 GTX card later.....

As for the DirectX 10 games? There is only one so far: Microsoft Flight Simulator X. And so far, there isn't a homebuilt or factory built computer out there that is powerful enough to run it at max speed and graphic details. Good thing about Vista is that it will also rate the games you install on your computer! Flight Simulator X rates at a 4 out of 5 on my computer, although it runs like garbage.... :hmpf: looks like I'll jump to 4 gigs of ram next.

BTW....I'm a tech geek. Not a nerd. :)

Quote by PrairieDogGuy2006I along with other "customers paying for the right to be insured like to think the insurance company is here to help me, help me "pick up" the pieces when a event happens (I.E. automobile accident, my house or apt. catches fire, when I get sick, require hospitalization, or other services I may need."
I admit, everytime when I make a premimun payment on my insurance policy, I get the sickening feeling that I have been "shanked" in my kidney. That's paying for an event, I hope will never happen. In the cases of natural disasters, like Hurricane Katrina or the countless other hurricanes which devasted coastal areas of the U.S. The same with my automobile premimuns, I feel like I am being ripped off, but if I was involved in a automobile accident, as long as I am paid up, I will be "okay"
As far as the present administration (the present occupant (s) in the White House) I feel that they have allow the insurace companies to run with the ball, so the customers will get less for his / her investments. It's almost like really paying for protectionist's fees. Then one has to consider where they are living at.
Take for example, if you live along the shoreline of a coastal state. Yes, you sign up for insurance for your beachfront property, which may run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars or Euro or what ever. Then there is the cost of paying for other's misfortunes. Then there is the fees and administrative costs to maintain the insurances in force. Of course, one should't have to pay for another's misfortunes. Yet, we do it every day in one form or another.
Yeah, sure the politicians do get a "donation" going to their cause. Republicians, Democrats plus any other political party on the face of the earth. With that much money coming in and out, how can they not touch the money, especially when the money is being thrown their way. It's too bloody tempting !
Don't forget the shareholders, they get a piece of the action. Like all businesses, the goal of the insurance company is to make a profit, so they can return a "portion" of the investor's money.
Ahh, isn't great to live in a capitalistic nation ?
Insurance companies are never fun to deal with, but think of this way: you pay for a piece of paper that has your signed name on the document, it's not really yours, you're paying for the right to be insured incase of a event or the lose of a loved one or being hospitalized. Ouch ! When it does happen to you, when you file for a claim, you wait and yes, you will wait for compensation. When you do, it's not always what you pay into the policy (the life of), it's better to get a portion or a percentage back your way. Oh well, I hope I didn't bored anyone with my thoughts.

Interesting....but really what does politics has to do with insurance? o_0

Now, insurance for my car, boat and home? Yes.

Why? Because if some asshat decides to hit either my car or boat, I will be covered. Do you think I will trust the asshat to pay me personally for damaging my property? Now if my car is totaled and my boat sank, I will expect my insurance company ot hook my up with another one of equal or slightly lesser value. Now for my home, that is a different story. I would not buy a beachfront house (or a house in the middle of tornado alley) that is not storm-proof, thats common sense. If I do buy one, I will fix it so that it is storm-proof. Insurance companies deducts money from your premium if you storm-proof you home....more money in my pocket and a higher resale value for my home. So if a storm damages my home, I do not have to hassle with red tape in getting my moneys worth back.

But it don't work necessarily work that way. Especially if the other party is either uninsured or the insurance company is extremely shady *cough* Statefarm *cough*. Then lawyers are involved (which eventually comes out of your pocket) and lengthy procceding and arbitrations (again out of your pocket later), soon, you will either come out with less then what you paid for or you wind up owing them! This is the work of the business, not politicians. Politicians doesn't dictate how an insurance company should be ran, unless he owns it.

Health insurance should be free across the board. Simple. It is the doctors job to save lives, not get paid for it...

Wait, better yet, the doctors should be paid by the government using our taxes so that can cover free health care for all.......wishful thinking thats all.

But a faster processor will! All of my software, drivers, and periphials from x.p. work on Vista, all except the Windows Net Meeting, which utilize my webcam. But Net Meeting is no longer part or Microsoft Vista OS, it was replaced by Windows Live. The thing is to uninstall all your drivers and then reinstall them in Vista. Microsoft even highly recommends that you back up everything and do a clean install, giving you more resources and drive space for your apps to run.

I knew I shouldn't have used that specific example. You may not have come across it, but there have been quite a lot of problems with the Nvidia drivers on Vista, as well as the Creative drivers for the X-Fi. In both cases the worst problems have come with NEW hardware. The Nvidia drivers simply weren't up to scratch, and the Creative drivers would never work because of a fundamental change in the audio stack in Vista (which btw I think is quite awesome and should have been done a long time ago). I believe that Creative now have a work-around in place and Nvidia's drivers are improving, but having a faster processor or doing a clean install (which I would do anyway) would not help with these problems.

However, if your new hardware works perfectly, good luck to you! If I could get everything working satisfactorily I'd switch as well. Just not yet! :D

The problems with the NVida drivers were addressed by NVidia just before the release of Vista, for those who were about to switch to the new OS with older computers. NVidia released new drivers from the 6600 series up to the 7900 series videocards. Although the updated drivers work well with Vista, they are not Direct X 10 compliant, which makes the Aero interface useless if you are not running two videocards or more. So far, the only card capable of running Vista at its full potential is the 8800 series card. As for the soundcard issues, I have no clue; I do not use a secondary soundcard (have a 5.1 card built into the moboard and its fine) so I don't know the issues with Vista, but I hope they can fix it soon.

And yes, the security issue with Vista is truly annoying! There is a way to fix that, but it curtails shutting off ALL the security features that makes Vista better that X P, (and not secure) and there is no way I turning them off. Downloading files without a antivirus program is risky for the xp users, but since there are virtually none written for Vista, I might have a few months of freedom.....but I'll buy and install an anti-virus program just in case. ;)

I AM IN THE US ARMY.
I do understand that some of the US standards for women and men are not really balanced. All that aside I agree there are physical and psychological differences between the sexes. What most people fail to understand is that the training is more important. You can never really tell what someone will do in a life and death situation military or no. If properly trained most people, regardless of sex, will respond correctly in any given situation. I would like you to take a look at the Israeli army. Not only is it a requirement for everyone to serve, but men and women serve side by side. Yes they even have women in their special operations units that could easily destroy an average infantry squad of US Troopers. Believe it! I've seen them when I was stationed in Egypt. The point is that woman CAN handle combat and front line combat. The US has women MP's on the frontline in Iraq going out on patrol. Just because they are not infantry, doesn't mean they arenâ?t frontline Troopers. What it boils down to is women want the power to choose for themselves and men want to protect their pride.

Quote by LigerZSchniderFirst of all I am a soldier.

And I will tell you that women in the infantry isn't and will never happen! And I concur to the fullest for several reasons:

Physical standards among the ranks: If a woman was in a a 11b (infantry soldier) position, you will have to lower the standards for all military personnel in that MOS (military occupation speciality) ACROSS THE BOARD! Right now the average male at the age of 17 must pass the AFPT (Army Physical Fitness Test) with a score of no less than 60% of each events:

Push-ups - 17 yr. old males must perform a minimum of 72 correct push-ups in under two minutes in order to pass the event. A male cannot have any other contact with the ground besides the hands and the feet. Females can perform them on their knees. Males cannot.

sit ups - 17 yr old males must perform a minimum of 80 sit ups, with hands interlaced behind your head, in under two minutes in order to pass the event.

two mile run - 17 yr. old male must complete the 2 mile run, unassisted, in under 15 minutes. As the soldier gets older the standards gets lower to compensate.

The female PT standards at this age bracket are much, much lower!

My man you shoud really know the standard before you quote them. FYI The Fitness standard is 42 PUSH UPS, 53 SIT UPS and 2 mile run WITH IN 15:54 for males 17-21 years old. That is the qualification that all male soldiers must make reguardless of military occupational specialty. For women of the same age the qualifying standad is 17 PUSH UPS, 53 SIT UPS, and complete the 2 mile run with in 18:50. And the test scores points not percents. You must earn 60 points in each event (remember the scale is open ended for those who acheive more).

Well....this is....old:

Tim, the standards you just qouted are the NEW APFT Standards! When I enlisted the standards was what I quoted earlier. In fact those numbers I put were from a older APFT chart when I was stationed in Germany last year, which we were still basing our testing on. I am also aware of the new standards; which was changed well after I posted this. But we are missing the point: if women want to be in a combat MOS, she should be able to perfom just like her male counterparts, with no deviation because of her gender.

I don't care how tight the gun law gets; eventually someone will get a hold of a firearm who has snapped. Anyone seen the picture of the suspect yet? Yeah he's Korean.....way out of the box for a psychopath, a thug, or a gang member. Just an ordinary kid from another country with no friends or family who just snapped. Any gun store owner and any background check would not have stopped this guy. The worse thing is anyone is susceptable, and have an arsenal in their garage! No matter who you are: man, woman or child.....when you snap, you are gonna take others with you.

Take firearms away, and the underground will get stronger. Let anyone own firearms, this and even worse tragadies will follow.... what we all need to be is more friendlier to others and not nastier, or be quicker on your feet and have a sharper mind to recognize when a disaster is about to happen.

Quote by PleaseRecycle The US Mint can make a sheet of hundred dollar bills for very little cost in resources. It is the IDEA that the money is worth anything is what gives it value.

Not really. The US Mint can only make as much money according to the value of either gold or silver. If Gold and Silver is rated high, the more money can be produced. The less its rated, then the less money is created. So it is really about the value of precious metals in ones' possession, not about how much paper is wasted.

Quote by shadowfoxzaI'll be staying with XP for a while yet ... Windows Vista hasn't impressed me enough to want to make me switch just yet ... and from what I can see it's a monster resource hog ...

Yes it is. That is because its designed for the latest computers. And those computers can do twice as much that a computer built a couple years ago.
I built my computer to run Vista, and it wasn't really that pricey, since most of the componets I already had, like a motherboard that can support 4 gigs of ram and a dual processor, along with a powerful videocard (I had 2 6800 SLI cards at the time). To upgrade to Vista Home Premium and run it flawlessly, i had to buy a dual core processor and the 8800gtx. That only cost me about 550 dollars. So Vista is really all about if you can afford a new computer or not.

f

Well I use Windows Vista, its great with the Aero interface! The great thing with Vista is that you can run you 95 to Windows xp sp2 with Vista. You have to select your programs to run in incompatibility mode for them to work. Remember that Vista may be a new OS, but it can still run like the older programs (95, 98, xp).... but it is still a windows operating system.

I believe that most of you who think they should be banned are retarded, hows that for an opinionated comment?

What the hell....the Olympics is a SPORTING event and not a political policy maker for countries! And as far is I can tell, there has been no country that was banned or barred, for that matter, for participating in the Olympics. The only country that didn't participate was either China or USSR, back somewhere in the 80s and they BOYCOTTED the Olympics!

I swear, you people will try to find any little thing to attack the US. And the funny thing is half of you live there, and complaining about it here isn't going to change a thing! Suck it up, save your money then leave! Some of you say such things just to fit in.....my advice for you is to find new friends! Even Iraqis believe in their country even when it is a state of mass confusion!

Some of you really need to wake up and get a grip..... :hmpf:
